A Culinary Adventure at Quebracho: Savoring Argentinian Meats in Mexico City

When in Mexico City, finding a slice of Argentina might not be on your initial itinerary, but a visit to Quebracho will undoubtedly make you reconsider. Nestled in the heart of this vibrant metropolis, Quebracho offers a dining experience that transports you straight to the bustling streets of Buenos Aires, with its exceptional selection of Argentinian meats and impeccable service.

Ambience and Experience

Quebracho’s ambience adds to the overall experience. The restaurant exudes a warm, inviting atmosphere with a rustic yet elegant decor that reflects its Argentinian roots. From the wooden furniture to the dim lighting and traditional accents, every detail is thoughtfully curated to make diners feel at home.

Appetizers: A Taste of Tradition

The meal began with a selection of traditional Argentinian appetizers. The Empanadas were a standout, served with a vibrant green sauce that piqued our curiosity. This sauce, known as Chimichurri, is a quintessential Argentinian condiment made with parsley, garlic, oregano, vinegar, and olive oil. It perfectly complemented the savory filling of the empanadas, adding a fresh and tangy kick.

I also indulged in chips with guacamole and cheese, a delightful fusion that married the rich, creamy texture of the guacamole. It was the perfect prelude to the main event.

A Feast of Argentinian Meats

Quebracho is renowned for its wide selection of meats, and they certainly live up to the reputation. As soon as being seated at the beginning, the attentive staff began introducing the various cuts of meat on offer. From the classic Bife de Chorizo (sirloin steak) to the tender Lomo (tenderloin) and the richly flavored Asado de Tira (short ribs), each cut was explained with passion and precision, reflecting the restaurant’s dedication to authenticity.

The Star of the Show: The Ribeye Steak

It was tough to choose but I made my selection before ordering the appetizers. The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the ribeye steak. The piece of meat was massive, cooked to perfection, and presented with a side of roasted vegetables. The steak was a marvel of culinary expertise, with a beautiful sear on the outside and a tender, juicy interior. This ribeye likely weighed around 500 to 600 grams or 16 to 20 ounces, showcasing its substantial and satisfying portion size. The ribeye steak at Quebracho was likely prepared using traditional techniques, including a precise grilling method that enhances the meat’s natural flavors.

Argentinian beef is world-famous for its quality, and Quebracho ensures this by sourcing their meat directly from Argentina. The beef is known for its flavor, tenderness, and texture, largely attributed to the natural grass-fed diet of Argentinian cattle. While I tried the ribeye different cuts of beef offer varying tastes and textures:

1. Sirloin (Bife de Chorizo): Leaner with a robust flavor.

2. Tenderloin (Lomo): Extremely tender with a mild flavor.

3. Short Ribs (Asado de Tira): Richly flavored and perfect for slow cooking.

Each cut offers a unique experience, from the melt-in-your-mouth tenderness of the tenderloin to the hearty and flavorful ribeye.

I managed to eat through about 75% of this enormous steak, savoring every bite, and took the rest to my hotel to enjoy later. The experience was not just about the food but also about the rich culinary heritage it represented.

Pairing the Perfect Drink

To complement the steak, I opted for a Victoria beer. This Mexican brew, with its smooth, slightly bitter taste, paired beautifully with the rich, hearty flavors of the steak, making it a perfect choice for meat lovers.
