A Night at Shokudo: A Korean and Japanese Culinary Adventure

Shokudo, Korean & Japanese Restaurant

Last Saturday, we decided to visit Shokudo, a Korean and Japanese restaurant known for its eclectic mix of Asian cuisines. The restaurant is located in Jayanagar, Bengaluru and offers valet parking. It was a bustling evening, and despite arriving without a reservation, we were seated within 15 minutes. The courteous staff displayed remarkable efficiency, balancing the needs of a packed restaurant with a warm, welcoming demeanor.

The atmosphere was electric, with a constant hum of conversation and laughter filling the air. The walls adorned with Japanese manga artifacts added a playful touch, creating a vibrant and immersive dining experience. The staff, ever attentive, moved swiftly, ensuring every hungry patron was well taken care of.

The menu at Shokudo is a food lover’s dream, offering an array of Japanese, Korean, and Thai favorites. Each dish, beautifully presented with mouthwatering visuals, makes it nearly impossible to choose just one.

Our Culinary Journey Begins

My daughter Aaira, a lover of sushi, kicked off our meal with her favorite spicy tuna maki rolls. We also ordered salmon nigiri and Tamagoyaki, a Japanese omelette dish. The tuna rolls were perfectly spicy, and the Tamagoyaki was a delightful blend of sweetness and savory. While the salmon wasn’t the freshest we’ve ever had, the overall taste was commendable.

Next, we ventured into the realm of Korean street food with small plates of Korean corn dogs and Teokkochi, spicy rice cake skewers. These dishes, though small, were surprisingly filling and offered an interesting twist to our meal.

Aaira then indulged in a portion of Omurice, a fried rice dish topped with a fluffy scrambled egg omelette. The flavors were harmonious, and the rice was cooked to perfection. Sharmain the delightful better half of our life, opted for the Miso Ramen vegetarian, a comforting bowl of miso-flavored broth filled with tender vegetables and firm noodles. The richness of the broth paired beautifully with the fresh, crunchy vegetables, making it a satisfying choice.

I, on the other hand, chose the Pork Tonkatsu Ramen. This dish featured a hearty pork broth, tender pieces of tonkatsu (breaded and fried pork cutlet), noodles, and an assortment of vegetables. The broth was fantastic, rich and flavorful, complementing the succulent pork and perfectly cooked noodles. Each bite was a delightful mix of textures and tastes, making it a standout dish of the evening.

Final Thoughts

Our visit to Shokudo was a memorable culinary adventure, filled with delectable dishes and a lively atmosphere. The restaurant’s ability to seamlessly blend Japanese, Korean, and Thai flavors is truly commendable. Despite a minor hiccup with the freshness of the salmon, the overall experience was overwhelmingly positive. Whether you’re a fan of spicy Korean bites or crave the comfort of a rich Japanese ramen, Shokudo offers something for every palate.

We left the restaurant feeling satisfied and eager to return, ready to explore more of the extensive menu. Shokudo has certainly earned its place as a go-to spot for an authentic and enjoyable Asian dining experience.
